c.1901 Long Island Railroad Company Travel Brochure Book w/ Shinnecock Golf Scenes
This 64 page travel brochure with photos of Long Island
attractions was issued in the early 1900’s by the Long Island
Railroad Company to promote use of their railway.
Among the sites featured and pictured are the golf links at
Freeport Golf Club, and scenes at the Shinnecock Hills Golf
club. The Freeport photo shows play on the course. There
are two photos on the Shinnecock page. One is an early 1900’s
view of the famous clubhouse designed by Stanford White.
The second photo is of Beatrix Hoyt and Margaret Fox in second
round match play of the 1900 USGA Women’s Amateur
Championship Tournament at Shinnecock. Hoyt, who was the
medalist with a 94 in the qualifying round, would defeat Fox 1
up in that match but lose in the next round to Francis Griscom
who would eventually go on to win the tournament.
