Walter Hagen's Addressed Envelope w/ c.1958 Sam Melchionne Quartet Record from Estate
With Walter Hagen's adddressed Traverse, Michigan address is this phonograph record and associated ephemera from the personal estate of legendary golfer's estate. The primary item is a 7-inch 45 RPM vinyl record on the yellow M.E.I. Records label, number M.E.I. 1000-1/1000-2, by the Sam Melchionne Quartet. Side 1 features The Preacher, composed by Horace Silva, and Side 2 features Starlight, composed by Carlisi-Murphy. The record is accompanied by its original brown paper mailing envelope addressed via typewriter to Walter Hagen, Route 2 - Box 122, Traverse City, Mich., and bears a Las Vegas, Nevada, bulk rate postage permit stamp.
The reverse of the postcard contains an note in blue ink addressed to Dear Walter and Doris, detailing travel plans to New York and Washington, D.C. The provenance is established by an included COPY of the typed Certificate of Authenticity signed by Shelby J. Plyler of Tustin, Michigan, dated 2000. This document outlines the chain of custody from Walter Hagen to his companion Doris Brandes, and subsequently to the Plyler family. A typed List of Walter Hagen Estate items, which includes this record, is also present.
