Two Early 20th-Century Hickory-Shafted Golf Clubs Including an Aston Mashie Niblick and an Edgemont Putter
This lot contains two vintage hickory-shafted golf clubs from the early 20th century. The first is an Aston Mashie Niblick, equivalent to a modern high-lofted iron. The head is constructed of Firth Stainless steel and was manufactured in Great Britain. The back of the head is extensively stamped with technical specifications and maker marks, including Lie 118, Weight 9 1/2 ozs, Loft 45, and Model No 7. It is centrally stamped ASTON MASHIE NIBLICK and MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN. Additional stamps include WARNTD FORGED, the letters PROJ within a pointed rectangular border, and FIRTH STAINLESS within a stepped rectangular frame. A small maker cleek mark is visible on the far left. The face features a dotted punch-mark pattern in a grid. The club is fitted with a tapered hickory wood shaft and a black leather wrap grip secured with cord whipping.
The second club is an Edgemont blade-style putter. The head appears to be a copper-based alloy, such as brass or bronze, and features a smooth face. The back of the head is stamped with EDGEMONT in an arched layout above a horizontal line with a central circle, with the word PUTTER stamped below. The club has a tapered hickory wood shaft and a dark brown leather wrap grip secured with striped fabric whipping at the top and bottom. 33 1/2" - 35 1/2"
