Photo Of Francis Ouimet & Eddie Lowry
Francis Ouimet was captured in this original photo playing out of the sand, with the Robin to his Batman nearby, at the Long Island golf course Engineers Country Club. The crystal clear shot was taken May 4, 1926, in between the team - Ouimet and young caddy (pictured a little older) Eddie Lowery - the 1913 US Open and 1931 US Amateur. Crystal clear, with detail showing each wispy strand of grass - inside and outside the fairway-side bunker. Ouimet and Lowery (with stovepipe bag) study the escape shot - advancing despite the apparent poor lie. The original photo of the iconic duo remains in good overall condition as depicted in the lot photos of it, with the original caption adhered to verso that reads as follows.
"First Exhibition Golf Match of the Season: Francis Ouimet, Dwight Rockwell, Bob Harris and John. M. Demarest, played the first 18 hole exhibition golf match of the season today over the links of the Engineers Country Club at Roslyn, L.I. Ouimet is a member of the U.S. Walker Cup Team. Photo shoes Ouimet playing out of the rough on the third hole. 5/4/26. 8" x 10"
