Intricate 1932 Seigniory Club Canadian Sterling Silver Golf Trophy by Birks
The Seignory Golf Club, now known as the Fairmont Le
Château Montebello Golf Club, has a fascinating past.
Designed by Stanley Thompson in 1929, this Montebello,
Quebec golf course remained the private domain of the
esteemed Seigniory Club until 1970. Today the course is
considered as one of the best public golf courses in
Quebec.
This 3 1/2" x 2"x 5" trophy is very unique and crafted in a style
we have not seen before. It features 6 golf clubs
interwoven and crossed atop a shield with a depiction
of the club among the pine trees with “Sieigniory Club “
on the bottom of the shield. The shield is marked Birks
Stirling.
The shield and clubs rest on a wooden plinth with a
sterling plaque marked “FIRST ANNUAL LADIES GOLF
TOURNAMENT SEPT. 3RD & 4TH 1932
Overall a likely one of a kind artifact from a course
designed by a master Canadian architect at a wilderness
resort for the elite which continues to operate alongside
the grand Château Montebello.
