Hillerich and Bradsby Co No 8 Niblick Hickory Shaft Golf Club
This antique golf club is a No 8 Niblick manufactured by the Hillerich and Bradsby Co of Louisville, Kentucky. The club features a hand-forged steel head with a high loft, characteristic of the niblick style which is the precursor to the modern wedge. The face of the club head is designed with a rectangular area of horizontal scoring lines. The back of the head is stamped with multiple marks including NO 8 NIBLICK along the top edge and HAND FORGED below. The central maker's mark reads HILLERICH and BRADSBY CO. above LOUISVILLE, KY. The word NIBLICK is also stamped vertically on the toe of the club head. The head is joined to a tapered hickory wood shaft via a long hosel that is pinned and features decorative knurling at the base. The club is fitted with a red leather-wrapped grip secured at the end with a rounded metal cap.
