Gene Sarazen Signed 1964 Hand Written Letter To Writer Pat Ward Thomas - 1935 Masters Content!
Much thought and time, yielding equal content, from Gene Sarazen to author Pat Ward on December 15, 1964 went into this handwritten four pager (two front and back) filling up these sheets of his personal letterhead. The Squire discusses his underwhelming Golf Magazine banquet experience as displeasure of the All-American team of 8 players and the coinciding budget associated with it. It then got very interesting when Gene Sarazen compared the $600k collective earnings of the team of 8 with his significant win purses. "Winning the Masters first prize seven hundred and fifty dollars, Wood and myself played a thirty-six hole playoff in the rain received fifty dollars each, not enough for a caddy fee while today they are buying $150,000 airplanes." Sarazen goes on to ask the question we know the answer to, "Can you imagine golf players making a million Dollars a year...?" You will certainly want to read this, Sarazen the then host of Shells Wonderful World of Golf asking the professional golf finance questions that would arise when the Tiger Woods days began decades later.
