Frank Stranahan's 1955 Eastern Open Winner's Trophy - PGA Tour Victory #4
Here is legendary amateur golfer, Frank Stranahan, the Toledo Strongman's 1953 Eastern Open winner's trophy representing his fourth PGA Tour win. The trophy consists of a silver-toned metal urn-shaped body set upon a pedestal, capped with a gold-toned lid. The lid is topped with a figural metal finial depicting a male golfer in a full follow-through swing, holding a separate thin metal golf club. The entire assembly is mounted on a two-tiered dark wood square base.
The trophy features two engraved silver-toned metal plates mounted on the wooden base. The front plate is inscribed with: EASTERN OPEN / SCORE 280 / FRANK R. STRANAHAN. The rear plate is inscribed with: MAYOR D’ALESSANDRO / TROPHY / 1953.
At Mt. Pleasant Municipal Golf Course in Baltimore, Maryland Frank Stranahan would top the field with a score of 280, as recorded on the plate corresponds to his four-round tournament total. The Mayor D'Alessandro referenced is Thomas D'Alesandro Jr., who served as the Mayor of Baltimore from 1947 to 1959.
