Derby International Silver Plate Golf Trophy Box and Sterling Silver Vesta Case
Two early 20th-century golf-related objects comprising a commemorative footed humidor or jewelry box and a sterling silver vesta case. The rectangular box is raised on four tapered square legs and features a hinged lid surmounted by a large textured metal golf ball and a miniature golf club wood positioned diagonally across the top. The front of the box is engraved: DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BANKERS ASSOCIATION / ANNUAL CONVENTION / HOT SPRINGS, VA / JUNE 17-18-19, 1926 / SHANNON CUP EVENT / SECOND LOW NET / WON BY. The underside of the lid bears an impressed arched mark reading DERBY S. P. CO. above a rectangular bar reading INTERNATIONAL S. CO. The second item is a sterling silver pocket vesta case with a hinged lid, featuring an embossed scene of a golfer in mid-swing within an ornate scrollwork border.
