Driver Shaft Stamp D. Mcewan & Sson Musselburgh And Made In Scotland In Oval 1875-85
43 1/4"
This antique long-nose wooden golf club features a dark-stained head constructed with a scared joint, secured with twine whipping at the transition to the shaft. The crown of the club head is stamped with the maker name MCEWAN. The underside of the head is fitted with a brass sole plate secured by multiple screws, and a lead back-weight is inset into the rear. The dark-stained hickory shaft bears an oval maker mark containing the name MCEWAN. The club is finished with a long, light-brown leather-wrapped grip secured with whipping at both ends.
The club shows signs of historical use and age. The wooden head and shaft exhibit surface scratches, minor indentations, and wear to the dark finish. The leather grip shows surface abrasion, minor loss, and thinning consistent with age. Metal components, including the brass sole plate and lead weight, display oxidation and surface wear. The twine whipping remains intact but shows some fraying and discoloration.
