Clubmakers Stamp Wood Plaque w/ Mounted Auchterlonie St Andrews Cleek Head - Unique
A vintage golf memorabilia display featuring an antique iron golf club head mounted to a rustic wood slab commemorative plaque. The polished wood cross-section features multiple transfer-printed or etched historical makers marks. The front face includes a central upper signature in cursive reading Robert T Jones Jr, and a central portrait depicting a man in historical golf attire. Numerous maker logos are present, including Peter Merry Leeds, RS Fernie Cheshire, Harry Vallance, Forgan St Andrews, Auchterlonie St Andrews, Henry Cotton, Harry Vardon, Morris St Andrews, J. Marshall Burntisland GC, Willie Cattell Cruden Bay GC, and J.R. Gaunt & Son. The lower arc is printed with J.Carstairs and R.Simpson.
The antique iron club head is a cleek or similar early iron, lacking a shaft, and is mounted to the slab with two metal pins. It bears an oval stamp reading L Auchterlonie St Andrews surrounding a wavy line cleek mark.
The reverse side of the wood slab features a second signature reading Robert T Jones Jr. and additional text at the bottom. The lower markings include ST ANDREWS and CARNOUSTIE in red block letters, and W. J. MORTLAND JNR SHAVER LAKE in white block letters. Two small white horse symbols flank the central text. The reverse is fitted with a metal sawtooth hanger and a circular metal fastener..
