Byron Nelson Signed 1946 Kansas City Invitational Original Associated Press Wirephoto
This is an original Associated Press (AP) silver gelatin press photograph from 1946. The image features Hall of Fame golfers Byron Nelson (right) and Harold Jug McSpaden (left) with Wolf Rimann (center), the manager of the Hillcrest golf course. The photograph records a moment during the third round of the 1946 Kansas City Invitational. The item is hand-signed by Byron Nelson in black ink in the lower right area of the image. A typed paper caption strip is attached to the bottom margin, detailing the subjects and the event dated July 13, 1946. The reverse side of the photograph contains multiple purple ink stamps from the Associated Press including the Wirephoto branding and a usage disclaimer. There is a handwritten archival notation on the back that reads, File: Byron Nelson Golfer, dated 7-18-46. While no third-party certificate of authenticity is present, the signature is consistent with period examples and the provenance is supported by the original Associated Press archival markings.
