Arnold Palmer Signed Original 1963 Thunderbird Classic Win #39 Golf Illustration Comic Art by Lou Becerra - Framed
Signed to Wilson Staff representative that worked closely with Arnold Palmer, Leo McNamara, is this original pen and ink 1963 sports illustration on board by artist Lou Becerra. The artwork features a large portrait of Arnold Palmer and a secondary portrait of Jack Rule, Jr., both depicted holding a large number 67. The piece commemorates the 1963 100,000 Thunderbird Golf Classic at the Westchester Country Club, where the text box describes how virtually unknown 24-year-old Jack Rule, Jr. fired a 33-34 to tie Palmer for the lead. The board features a hand-lettered text box and a pasted-on title at the top reading Something Old... Something New!
The lower left quadrant features a personalized inscription and signature in blue ballpoint pen reading To Leo with my very best wishes Arnold Palmer. The artist's signature F. L. BECERRA is present in black ink in the lower left corner. The artwork is executed on a Crescent Illustration Board, as indicated by a green printed logo on the reverse. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
