A Pair of Ken Venturi 1964 U.S. Open Original Wire Photographs
This lot consists of two original black and white vintage wire photographs documenting Ken Venturi at the 1964 U.S. Open (National Open) held at Congressional Country Club in Washington, D.C. One photograph depicts Venturi celebrating on the ninth green after sinking a 12-foot birdie putt during the final round. This photo features a typed press caption at the bottom dated June 20, 1964, with a section of text obscured by black marker. A red ink notation is visible in the lower right margin. The reverse of this photograph bears red ink stamps for Sport and Wide World Photos, along with a detailed property rights statement. The second photograph captures Venturi with arms raised in victory after finishing his final round. This image includes a United Press International (UPI) Telephoto typed caption across the top border detailing his final score of 278. The reverse is marked with a red Sport ink stamp and a faint United Press International Inc. press stamp.
