A Collection of Chicken in the Rough Restaurant Memorabilia and Syracuse China Tableware
This group of promotional items and restaurant ware features the branding of the historic American chain Chicken in the Rough. The collection includes various service pieces and ephemera centered around the cackling rooster logo.
The ceramic tableware is constructed from heavy vitreous china with a tan glaze and molded scalloped Econo-Rim borders. The set includes a divided grill plate with three compartments, a deep bowl, a saucer with a central cup indentation, and a tapered coffee mug. The underside of the plate, bowl, and saucer feature printed brown backstamps. The bowl bears a similar mark with the code BCC, and the saucer bears the same maker text. Each ceramic piece displays the Chicken in the Rough logo on the interior or side, depicting a rooster with golf club.
Glassware consists of a clear tumbler with a weighted base and a faceted lower body, printed in red with the rooster logo and the text CHICKEN IN THE ROUGH T. M. REG. BY BEVERLY OSBORNE. A smaller clear glass jar with a cork stopper also features the red rooster graphic.
Metalware includes a tapered serving bucket with a red-painted interior. The exterior is lithographed with the logo and slogans including I'll Gladly be Fried For CHICKEN in the ROUGH and SERVED UNJOINTED WITHOUT SILVERWARE.
Paper goods and ephemera comprise a color lithograph postcard for LOCKWOOD'S CAFE KINGMAN, ARIZONA featuring the brand logo and advertising Fried 1/2 Chicken. There is a complete matchbook with the brand logo and the text THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS CHICKEN. Additionally, the lot contains a vintage unopened yellow paper packet of Wash 'n Dri moist towelettes. A small brown cardboard fold-over tag with a hole punch is also present..
