1953 US Open at Oakmont Program & Pairings Sheet from Ben Hogan's Triple Crown - Framed
This lot features a framed collection of original ephemera from the 53rd U.S. Open Championship, held at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, from June 9 to June 13, 1953. The assembly includes four primary printed components. At the top right is the official program cover displaying an image of the U.S. Open trophy and a green informational tag. At the top left is the cover for the Groupings and Starting Times booklet, dated Saturday, June 13, 1953, featuring an advertisement for Duquesne Brewing Co. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for Duquesne Pilsener and Silver Top beer. The bottom of the display contains two original pairings sheets for the Saturday morning and afternoon rounds. These sheets list various professional and amateur players with their 36-hole scores, including Ben Hogan (139), Sam Snead (141), Jimmy Demaret (147), Peter Thomson (153), Bobby Locke (148), and Dr. Cary Middlecoff (149). A central black plaque is engraved with gold-tone lettering that reads 53RD U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM AND PAIRINGS SHEET OAKMONT COUNTRY CLUB CIRCA 1953. The items are professionally mounted with a tan double mat in a cherry-finished wooden frame behind glass. This tournament is historically significant as the venue for Ben Hogan's fourth and final U.S. Open victory during his Triple Crown season.
