1926 Open Golf Championship Program Royal Lytham & St Annes - Bobby Jones 1st Open Win - Very Rare!
Good things come to those who wait - on this occasion atleast. On what is the 100 year anniversary of Bobby Jones' first Open Championship win, we present for the first time the exceedingly challenging official program from the event or as it was positioned 'Order of Play.' Likely the finest known example, it is one of now just two found publicly offered - unearthed from deep in the archives of a private collection to the delight of the public. This survivor was purchased at Royal Lytham & St Annes the week of the 1926 Open Golf Championship, held at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club. The paper-covered, staple-bound program features a well-preserved front cover colorfully illustrated with the crossed flags of Great Britain, France, and the United States, then priced at 6d. The interior contains the complete daily pairing schedule and starting times for the final rounds, highlighted by the pairing of amateur Bobby Jones, listed as Mr. R. T. Jones, Junr., U.S.A., alongside Al Watrous. The booklet contains period advertising throughout, including full-page features for Harlequin mesh golf balls. Full-page photographic portraits depict 1925 champion Jim Barnes and multi-time champion Walter Hagen with the Claret Jug. Extensive contemporary pencil annotations are present in the margin and scoring columns, tracking the third-round scores of the competitors. The back cover attributes the printing to the Proprietors of The Golfer's Handbook and Golf Monthly, Edinburgh. Color couldn't be better on this tight spine boasting ephemera enigma with immense historical significance in good to very good condition with a signle crease on the bottom of the back cover. Timing couldn't be better for this century-old print representing the most important golfer of his era conquering the eldest major in golf.
