Marvelous Collection Of Six Pinehurst Putter Boy Advertisements
The Pinehurst resort did a tremendous amount of advertising, especially in the winter months of popular magazines. This lot consists of six different and original December advertisements from Country Life In America magazine featuring the popular Putter Boy or Golf Lad. They span the years 1905 to 1912. 10" x 14"
They are as follows.
1. Putter Boy trying to fish a ball out of the water (December 1906)
2. Putter Boy in bunker with clubhouse in background (December 1910)
3. Putter Boy “Which Course Shall I play today”—with sign showing the then 4 Pinehurst Courses (December 1912) _this ad has been nicely matted matted .
4. Putter Boy “The Links are Open at Pinehurst. “His First Drive” (December 1905)
5. Putter Boy “Gee! But I’m glad to get back to Pinehurst”. (December 1909)
6. Putter Boy putting on a sand green with worker depicted in background smoothing the green (unique!) (December 1911)
The Putter Boy or Golf Lad is omnipresent in Pinehurst advertising still today and is also prominent in current USGA US Open memorabilia.
These beautiful color ads would look wonderful framed and matted together in one display on the wall or mantle. They present a unique nostalgic snapshot of Pinehurst in its early days. It would take years of collecting to assemble another group like this.
