c. 1840 Long-Nose Fruitwood Middle Spoon w/ 'W.S' Stamp from Jeff Ellis Collection


Part of the Sotheby's Jeffery B. Ellis Antique Golf Club Collection auction that took place in September of 2007, this c. 1840 long-nose middle spoon head was comprised with fruit wood and stamped in the crown with 'W.S.' It is gentled hooked and have a lofted head. There is a tight ram's horn insert in the sole on the leading edge. A lead weight has been added to backside of the head. Highly presentable, with expected wear in the face and specifically two areas that were filled. Follow the ash shaft up to the grip and there you will see a pair of notches just prior to reaching the leather grip. The 'W.S.' is thought to have been either the original owner or clubmaker, an unknown name nearly 200 years later. Head: 5 1/2" long, 1 7/8" wide, 1" deep, 40"
