c.1962 Arnold Palmer Personal Wilson Staff Dyna Power 1-Iron - R.H. Sikes Collection
Arnold Palmer picked up R.H. Sikes in his private plane for an exhibition. Sikes stated that that was the moment he knew life had changed, but didn't lose sight of his beginnings. Despite being a PGA Tour player and friend of Arnie's, he was a collector at heart as many in the community know. Along with Arnie signed Wilson bags, among the memorabilia highlights collected while networking in the golf community was this 'Arnold Palmer' stamped personal Wilson Staff Dynapower 1 iron from the tail end of his time with the company (1954-1963) in which Palmer gave Sikes. Here is that prized c.1962-1963 model Wilson Staff Dynapower Turfrider Sole 1 Iron. It was re-shafted, likely by recipient and tour player R.H. Sikes shortly after he was presented it by Arnold Palmer. Palmer was famous for having a 1 iron in the bag, from his (first) 1958 Masters win through his signature shot at Cherry Hills for the 1960 US Open and there after. Heavy wear is found from tinkering on the leading edge of the sole as depicted in the 12th lot photo. There are additional, welcomed signs of tinkering, as The King liked to do, hammer marks on the top of the hosel towards the shaft in multiple spots. From The King to R.H. Sikes to a friend in the collecting community and the winning bidder - Arnold Palmer's personal Wilson 1 iron.
