c.1910's Dunlop Golf Balls Store Display Tin Box
Now an elusive staple of golf advertising/vintage ball collecting featuring an early depiction of the Dunlop Ball Caddy, then a display with the finest golf balls available that couldn't be passed without noticing! Here it is, the very hard to find, large Dunlop golf ball tin box with two drawers from nearly 115 years ago - in very good condition must we add. When these pop up from time to time the condition almost never is this good, with vibrant navy and white paint and matching graphics. The carrying handle is inscribed to the lid and front panels “Dunlop Golf Balls" and the hinged lid opens to reveal The Dunlop Caddie figure on the inside of it. This box was used as a display piece in shops that sold Dunlop balls and both compartments hold can hold up to 48 (4 dozen) golf balls. The box exterior shows much less wear than expected for its age and utilization, the accompanying lot photos with a detailed condition report. It measures 10 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" and is seldom seen at auction. Dunlop began making golf balls in 1909 and in 1917 started using the Dunlop Caddie in their advertising. As shown in the accompanying lot photos, this cantilevered display maintains function with working hinges. Elevate your collection with this new cornerstone piece.
