c.1901 Haynes W.W. Denslow Ceramic Golfing Nursery Rhyme Plate - 13"!
From the turn of the century comes this, stunning and massive decorative ceramic cabinet plate manufactured by Haynes of Baltimore (D.F. Haynes & Co.), featuring a transfer-printed illustration from W.W. Denslow's Mother Goose. The central scene depicts Little Arthur in traditional Scottish attire, including a kilt and tam o' shanter, carrying a golf bag and holding a club. The illustration is framed by the nursery rhyme text: Rain, rain, go away, come again another day; Little Arthur wants to play. A small printed inscription in the lower right of the scene reads From Denslow's Mother Goose copyright 1901. The plate is finished with a relief-molded, scalloped rim featuring sponged green glaze and gilded scrollwork accents. The reverse side is finished in a cream-colored glaze and bears a maker's mark within a rectangular frame containing the name HAYNES above BALTO. A black wire for hanging is attached to the reverse - catapult your ceramics collection with this winning bid.
