c.1871 Richard Collins Long Nose Club
Maintaining a strong 'R. Collins' crown stamp is this prized long nose club with an aesthetically please cherry red hue. Born in the golf-rich port of Edinburgh in 1852, Leith, Collins embarked his clubmaking journey in 1871 at the age of 19-years-old. North Berwick would be his next stop in 1887, contesting at the Open Championship two years later. Tyneside Club Head Professional in 1890, Collins would join a proud tradition that already included Mungo Park and Willie Park Jr. Richard Collins would become Sr. in 1874 and have a total of six golfing sons, apples that didn't fall far from the tree. Notice the lines, this club was made in the style of a feather era club - likely at the request of the original client. It was made after the gutty ball was introduced, hence the cause of some damage to the face. This is one of the nicest looking long nose clubs you will find, with a ram's horn sole insert and lead weight found in the head with a sheepskin grip. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report. 44"
