c.1870s Jamie Anderson Long Nose
Here is a long nose hickory golf club by Scottish maker Jamie Anderson. Anderson produced a successful playing career as he won the Open Championship on three occasions, all consecutive from 1877 until 1879. His son James would also become a clubmaker and later joined David Blyth to form Anderson & Blyth. The club head is constructed of wood with a dark stained finish and features the elongated profile characteristic of the time. The crown of the head is vertically stamped with the maker name J. ANDERSON. In the sole is a ram's horn insert secured into the leading edge of the face held in place by wooden dowels. The club features a traditional spliced neck joint secured with black twine whipping. Please see accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report including a crack in the sole. The shaft is made of straight-grain hickory and is stamped with two large serif initials, H and J, near the hosel. 44" length
