Alan Shepard Autographed "Moon" Golf Ball
Alan B. Shepard, Jr. was not only the first American in space and the only of the original Mercury Seven astronauts to walk on the moon-he holds a "first" in the sports world. As a member of the Apollo 14 crew (the third successful lunar landing) in 1971, Shepard took a NASA moon tool and attached the head of a six iron, then proceeded to swing at a golf ball he had brought with, sending it "miles and miles" into the sky. Offered is a Spalding golf ball manufactured to commemorate Shepard's "Moon" shot. The ball features a drawing of the astronaut making his shot, as well as the stamping, "First Golf Ball/On The Moon/ Feb 8, 1971." A black marker signature of "Alan Shepard ("8" strength of sig) has been penned on the ball. JSA Auction Letter included.
