'Xuanzong at Play' Tapestry Presented to PGA of America from The Palace Museum in Beijing

Presented in this listing is a gift celebrating the PGA's historic inaugural trip to the People's Republic of China in 2006. This tapestry presents extraordinarily well, and the size of the tapestry does not go unnoticed. Please view the photo showing an associate of ours standing in front of the tapestry (she is approximately 5ft 7" tall). A heavy cast iron plate (14" x 18" x 5/8") detailing the gift will accompany this tapestry, and it reads as follows: "XUANZONG AT PLAY. An immaculate Ming Dynasty tapestry, Xuanzong at Play is presented from the illustrious collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing. In full regalia, Ming Emperor Xuanzong (1398-1435 AD, reign title Xuande, birth name Zhu Zanji) is exquisitely depicted on his private chiuwan course that featured 10 flagged holes on four delicately manicured greens.

Chuiwan (Chui - "Hitting"; Wan - "Small Ball) emerged in China during the Song Dynasty C943 AD, and this magnificent painting offers further significant evidence to the notion that the Chinese invented the forerunner to the modern game of golf. Surrounding Xuanzong are caddies who nervously present to the sixth Emporor of the Mind Dynasty his choice of imperial golf clubs edged in pure gold, inlaid with jade and accented by impeccably decorated shafts. When Emporor Xuanzong, who ruled from 1426-1435 during the "Golden Era" of the Ming Dynasty, finished playing this near-perfect model for today's practice greens, his chuiwan equipment was delicately stored in brocaded cases.

Xuanzong at Play was presented to the PGA of America by Mr. Zhang Xiaoning, Chariman Direcector General of the multi-ball games administrative center of the general administration of sport, in Beijing, during the PGA's historic first trip to the People's Republic of China, on Oct. 19, 2006. Accepting the gift of behalf of the PGA of America were PGA Chief Executive Officer Joe Steranka, PGA Managing Director of Membership Programs Chris Hunkler and PGA Magazine Publisher Richard K. Summers"

Please note that this tapestry is presented on a lightweight reinforced canvas, and is enclosed by a protective removable plexi glass shell. One corner of plexi glass does have a 3" crack present. The winning bidder has the option to have these features removed to lower the shipping cost as the tapestry can be carefully rolled for easy packaging.
