(3) Early 20th Century Illustrated Postcards Featuring Women Golfers
This lot consists of three antique American postcards depicting female golfers, dating from the early 20th century. The first card features a red-toned portrait of a woman with a golf club titled GOLF GIRL with a copyright date of 1907 by D. Hillson. The reverse side identifies it as part of Series 4100 American Beauties and bears a postmark from Indiana, Pennsylvania, dated May 7, 1908, along with a green one-cent Benjamin Franklin stamp. The second card (date unknown but early) is a color lithograph titled 4007 AT GOLF showing a golfer in mid-swing. This card bears the printed signature of illustrator I. Morrow and was postmarked in Bucyrus, Ohio, with a green one-cent George Washington stamp. The third card is a sepia-toned illustration of a woman carrying a golf bag. It is dated October 24, 1912, in handwritten ink on the front and contains a matching postmark from Maurer, Virginia, on the reverse with a green one-cent George Washington stamp.
