Woods, Nicklaus & Palmer Signed 11x14 Oversize 1996 Masters Original Photo
Tiger, Bear and King - Oh My! The centered Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer each signed with time-period black sharpie scribe this almost unbelievable candid original photo of landscape orientation and oversize dimensions; expertly shot the same day (April 10th) as the more common 1996 Masters Tournament photo used by Upper Deck. The brisk day in Augusta called for a memorable trio of ensembles: Tiger's black vest, Palmer's diamond patterned sweater and Jack's hue of choice yellow long-sleeve pullover. Amateur work, by definition only, with professional timing by a patron with uncanny positioning and instincts!
And what a day it was. A phenom (0 Masters wins) and two legends (10 Masters wins) went off in the same group for that 1996 Wednesday practice round at Augusta National Golf Club. Customary was it for Masters Tournament practice round pairings to include past champions and the US Amateur champion in the same grouping. Palmer and Nicklaus showed 20-year old defending US Amateur Champion qualifier Tiger Woods the ANGC ropes. It went so well that they continued the fun on George Cobb's design for the Par 3 Contest.
After proverbially having their hats blown off while test-driving the newest souped-up convertible, the legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer didn't downplay their observations April 10, 1996.. “This kid is the most fundamentally sound golfer I’ve ever seen at any age. I don’t know if he’s ready to win yet or not, but he will be the favorite here for the next 20 years. If he isn’t, there’s something wrong,” Nicklaus remarked of the amateur from Stanford. The round seemingly worked well for Tiger, five Masters wins including the following year, as he proved Jack right. As it stands today, 40 major championships and 15 green jackets are represented in this one-of-a-kind 11x14 signed photo. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their FULL letter of authenticity # comes with this lot.
