William Gibson & Co. Ltd Kinghorn Scotland Smith's Model Sammy Smooth Face Anti-shank Iron

Here we have an anti-shank iron model with deep markings including the club's title 'Smith's Model Sammy' by clubmaker William Gibson in Scotland over a century ago. Gibson, like many others, started out as a blacksmith. He began making cleeks and eventually clubs. Gibson worked with many of the popular names in golf at the time, like Braid and Cochrane, but interestingly may have made the first set of clubs using a female golfer's name, like the Joyce Wethered line in the 1920's. This club remains in very good condition, with the extensive stamping legible and propelling this club's high presentation value.
