This antique golf club features a wooden head with a dark wood shaft. The crown of the club head bears an incised oval stamp with the text WHITCOMBE SPECIAL. The club head is constructed with a metal sole plate secured by five screws and includes a dark weight insert at the rear. The face of the club features horizontal scoring lines. The shaft is finished with a dark leather wrap grip.
The item exhibits significant signs of age and historical use. The wooden head shows various scuffs, nicks, and surface wear. The metal sole plate displays scratches and oxidation consistent with age. The leather grip shows wear throughout and is beginning to unravel at the base of the handle.
