Walter Hagen's Hunting & Sporting Themed Personal Items from Estate
A trio of sporting collectibles from the estate of professional golfer and avid hunter/sportsman Walter Hagen (1892-1969), including an advertising pocket knife, a mechanical cigarette dispenser, and a hotel napkin, accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity and inventory list. The folding multi-tool pocket knife is manufactured by Camco, USA, as indicated by the tang stamp on the base of the pen blade. It features faux-pearl celluloid handle scales with nickel silver bolsters. One side is marked with the Julius Wile Importers logo and COMPLIMENTS OF H. G. BISSONNETTE, while the reverse displays Benedictine B&B in Gothic script. The mechanical wooden cigarette dispenser features a sliding body that lifts to reveal a central pedestal designed to hold cigarettes. The exterior is decorated with four panels depicting sporting scenes including a pointer dog, pheasants, and ducks in flight. The white cloth napkin originates from the Hunt Room at the Hotel Rowe in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is printed with fox hunting motifs including riders, hounds, and hunting horns in red and green. Provenance documentation includes a COPY of the certificate signed by Shelby J. Plyler of Tustin, Michigan, detailing the history of the collection from the estate of Walter Hagen.
