Vintage Center-Shafted Mallet Putter with Square Profile Steel Shaft
@A vintage golf putter featuring a mallet-style head and a center-shafted design. The club is constructed with a cast metal head, likely composed of a lead or zinc alloy, and a steel shaft. The most distinctive feature of this club is the square-profile metal shaft, which lacks a grip. The top of the mallet head includes a single recessed alignment groove filled with red pigment. The sole of the club head bears impressed, incised characters that are partially obscured by surface wear and pitting. Near the center of the sole, the characters PAT PEND are readable, indicating a patent pending status at the time of manufacture. Additional marks and potentially numeric characters are present toward the heel and toe of the sole but are not legible due to heavy surface oxidation and pitting. The hosel is integrated into the center of the head, and the shaft terminates in an exposed square-end top.
