US & Europe Team Signed 1999 Ryder Cup at The Country Club Welcome Dinner Menu Inc. Payne & Tiger!

I have a good feeling about this. Meticulously signed and passed around at the 'Welcome Dinner' by both the COMPLETE United States and European Ryder Cup Teams (26 counting captains), with significant inclusion of both Payne Stewart and Tiger Woods, is this official menu from the opening event - a work of art in itself! 23-year old Woods signed with the time-period slant just below his typed name at the bottom, giving the big cat ample room for his descender "g" and ascender "d" resulting in a high-grade pencil exemplar. The "All-American boy" who reveled in the team comradery, Payne Stewart, signed his sit-down flowing name just two slots above. Rounding out the 26 signatures are those in order are: US: Captain Ben Crenshaw, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, Jeff Maggert, Phil Mickelson, Mark O' Meara, Steve Pate, Stewart, Hal Sutton, and Woods. Europe: Captain Mark James, Darren Clarke, Andrew Coltart, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Jesper Parnevik, Jarmo Sandelin, Jean Van de Velde, and Lee Westwood.

Exuding class and accented by a yellow tassel running down its spine, this official '1999 Ryder Cup Welcome Dinner' menu was fittingly designed with a fairy tale-like front cover (like the matches themselves) that showcases the Brookline Country Club clubhouse and the 18th hole it overlooks. That soft image underlined by a sea of spectators transitions from the sky into cloud illustrations and the Ryder Cup tournament information on a red shield.

Now to the tournament itself. The historic biennial matches of 1999, dubbed the "The Battle of Brookline", remain the most celebrated, unlikely United States Ryder Cup victory in recent memory. Down 10-6 heading into the last day Crenshaw, coincidentally wearing a plain striped shirt under a vest, said at the podium "I'm going to leave y'all with one thought, then I'm going to leave. I'm a big believer in fate. I have a good feeling about this." Justin Leonard drained a 45 foot putt to win the Ryder Cup for the Americans, overcoming the seemingly insurmountable deficit that the Europeans had worked so hard to achieve. It was a perfect end to a perfect season for Payne Stewart who relished in the comradery with his fellow patriots, forming the rare team sport atmosphere in the competitive primarily individual game of golf. Unfortunately it would also be his final season, tragically passing less than a month later. “When he (Payne Stewart) won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, the first thing he said was he was in the Ryder Cup team, and he was thrilled to be in the Ryder Cup team—even more than he was winning the U.S. Open," Colin Montgomerie spoke in remembrance of Payne Stewart. Impossible to replicate is the collection of signatures on this historic menu hailing from a tournament dignitary or player that was there that Ryder Cup week no one will forget.
