Two Vintage Hickory-Shafted Golf Clubs Including a Spalding Mid-Iron and a George Nicoll Zenith Niblick
This lot consists of two vintage hickory-shafted golf clubs dating to the early 20th century.
The first club is an A.G. Spalding and Bros. Mid-Iron. The back of the forged club head features the name SPALDING stamped in block capital letters above an engraved mallet or hammer mark. To the right of this mark is the cursive script signature A.G. Spalding and Bros. Below the signature is the stamp FORGED MODEL IRONS, and to the far right near the toe is the model designation M-H. The club is fitted with a hickory wood shaft and a wrapped black leather grip.
The second club is a George Nicoll Zenith Niblick, a high-lofted wedge produced in Scotland. The back of the head is stamped with WARRANTED over HAND FORGED at the upper left. Below these words is the George Nicoll cleekmark depicting an open hand or palm facing forward, above the stamps ZENITH and NIBLICK. To the right is the cursive signature of George Nicoll, positioned above the stamped location LEVEN FIFE and SCOTLAND. The club features a dashed-line scoring pattern on the face, a hickory wood shaft, and a wrapped, textured dark brown leather grip.
