Two Vintage British Lithographed Metal Golfing Theme Tins
This lot features two vintage British lithographed metal tins with a shared golfing theme. The larger item is a Foursome Mixture tobacco tin manufactured by The Robert Sinclair Tobacco Co. Ltd. of London and Newcastle on Tyne. The rectangular hinged lid displays a color lithograph scene titled Blink Bonnie Gleneagles, depicting four prominent early 20th-century professional golfers on a green: Abe Mitchell, Harry Vardon, George Duncan, and James Braid. The interior of the lid is finished in a gold tone with black text identifying the product as The Sportsman's Tobacco and advertising Foursome Cigarettes and Foursome Curly Cut Tobacco. The second item is a small, slim rectangular Elastoplast Golfer's Tape tin produced by T. J. Smith and Nephew Ltd. The lid is decorated with an orange and black lithograph design featuring a cross symbol, the text British Made, and a pre-decimal price of 6D. The interior of the lid contains printed directions for use, specifying that the tape adheres to itself rather than the skin.
