Tiger's First PGA Tournament 1992 Nissan LA Open Full Debut Ticket
Only 30 examples of this ticket are found the PSA's population report (including stubs), compare that to his Upper Deck rookie card of over 40,000, 2,000+ of his '96 SI for Kids and even the 1996 GMO ticket of 81. Since the beginning of 2024 that quantity of (30) 1992 LA Open tickets has stayed the exact same, unlike the others. The numbers are staggering, but expected. Who was going to save the ticket of the local teenager's first PGA tournament? This is our favorite example, the blue with red print variant that was specific to the Golf's Golden Circle (GGC) and admittance to the grounds, clubhouse and for the day of the holder's choosing. Condition sensitive collectors will also be vying to register this ticket's winning bid, as the rare FULL example #30329 boasts strong coloring, surface, edging and most corners as depicted in the accompanying lot photos.
Taking a couple days off of school and heading to the golf course to play in a professional tournament as a 16 year-old Sophomore in high school sounds like a dream many have had. For Tiger Woods in 1992 it was reality. Playing his first tournament on a sponsor's exemption at Riviera only a half of an hour away, Woods became the youngest male competitor in an official tour event that week. Sports Illustrated writer John Garrity even titled his four-page story about the monster event in the March 9, 1992 issue "You the Kid!': Tiger Woods, 16, proved he could make the grade, if not the cut, in his PGA Tour debut!"
Here it is, the seldom seen FULL ticket for that event that was printed for tournament use February 23rd to March 1st. The light blue 'Golf's Golden Circle' ticket with bold, black printing is in good to very good condition as depicted in the accompanying lot photos, unused and with its original string. It is also nearly a color match to the young Woods' attire that he wore that day. While it was not a win, this tournament was truly Tiger Woods' coming out party on the professional level. More than likely some of his competitors that week knew that they had to get their wins then before Woods was on the tour to stay. Here it is. Investors, collectors and sports memorabilia analysts rejoice.
