Tiger Woods & Teammates Signed 1995 Stanford Golf Team Photo
Sporting his white top and red pants Stanford golf team uniform, it was picture day for amateur phenom Econ major Tiger Woods and his teammates. Captured lined up at their home Stanford Golf course in sunny California, this example was one of the few 1995 team photos that were signed by Woods and his classmates in-between studies. Hands behind their backs, two team bags in the foreground and gleaming smiles. The 19-year-old Woods' signature formation transitioned year-to-year, with his c.1995 shortened version on the white of his shirt penned prior to elongating it. 'Playing days' signatures are one of the fastest growing hobby nuances, with 'rookie' or 'pre-rookie' signatures heavily preferred in the collecting community - when available. That formation penmanship is found with marquee positioning across his body, as are the the three others respectively.
The photo checks numerous boxes including time-period photo paper (with a closeup photo included in the listing) and amateur Tiger Woods' matching aforementioned time-period signature, along with those of Steve Burdick, Will Yanagisawa, Casey Martin and Notah Begay III (the latter going on to play on the PGA Tour with him). A limited media presence was on hand for NCAA golf events, as opposed to Woods' Amateur victories, yielding far less photos such as this example taken for the team members and the then Pac-10 conference college.
The top amateur since Jack Nicklaus, Two-time All-American Tiger Woods would go on to surpass him in nearly every metric prior to filing for professional status. Collegiately, Woods would win the 1996 individual NCAA Championship title. This was in addition to the already decorated golfer's 1991-1993 US Junior Amateur and 1994 & 1995 US Amateur titles (two months before his third consecutive US Amateur title). Now 30 years later, this 5" x 7" Tiger Woods and 1995 Stanford Team signed photo with some lightening is one of the very few survivors - without many to start with then. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
