Tiger Woods Signed 1993 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship Program

While a high school standout prep star in 1992 at the US Junior Championship Tiger was asked for his signature by the still northwest US based consignor, a strong golfer in his own right - he obliged by signing this program with his time-period 1992 robust black sharpie penmanship across the cover. Like all teenagers, he changed along with his signature. It would get shorter before it got longer, evolving almost every year for the first two decades. Woods would go from Algebra class to signing autographs in the blink of an eye. His AJGA experience, including 8 American Junior Golf Association wins between 1991 and 1992, was paramount in his player development. Fast-forward two years and Tiger would claim victory in his first of three straight U.S. Am titles as an 18 year old. US Junior Championships are attended by just a fraction of patrons of major championships, or even US Amateurs, creating supply issues for the coveted tickets and programs when a big name does win. Included inside the program is Tiger Woods along with an early Nike golf cleat half page advertisement - three years later, with a very different golf shoe design, they would have the professional Tiger Woods as their golf spokesperson.

Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon played host to the United States Golf Association's 1993 Junior Amateur Championship. A red-hot Junior in high school name Tiger Woods entered the tournament as the strong favorite and rightfully so. Eldrick 'Tiger' Woods had, in fact, won consecutive tournament championships the two years prior at Bay Hill and Wollaston Golf Club in Massachusetts. The only other golfer to win this championship multiple times before or since was Jordan Spieth, however not consecutive. Woods would win in 19 holes over a future tour winner in Ryan Armour. This program is his from that third and final US Junior win that week, with the following three years being Tiger Woods' more publicized (and attended) US Amateur titles. It is only the third program we have offered from this tournament and first as an ultra-scarce signed example with his time-period penmanship. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
