Tiger Woods Signed 1993 Honda Classic Pairing Booklet - 3rd PGA Start & 1st Par or Better Rd!
'Playing days' signatures are one of the fastest growing hobby nuances, with 'rookie' or 'pre-rookie' signatures heavily preferred in the collecting community - when available. That is what we have here, 17-year-young Tiger Woods signed this 1993 Honda Classic starting times booklet. For perspective it was: a year before his first US Amateur win, three before his professional debut and four before his 1997 Masters win! A flawless time-period black fine-tip signature from Friday, March 12, 1993 just to the right of his name, (AM) and first-Round score. His ever-changing signature would shorten up in 1994 before it would again elongate, this being the prep star's less-practiced and less-given time-period formation in which you could read every letter.
The prep star Tiger Woods carded his first par or better round in a PGA Tour event in the first round (72) of his third PGA tournament at the 1993 Honda Classic! Bright eyes with a slender frame, he was a Junior in high school just trying to be an average kid. It was also Woods' first start in Florida or anywhere other than Los Angeles, California for that matter. Tiger would have to wait another two years until his next round of par or better, before what seemed like an entire career of them. The 1993 Honda Classic was dubbed the 'storm of the century' or at least it felt like it when the second day rolled around as one caddy put it. "High winds blew Tiger off the course on Friday, recording an 83," Mike Smith's (t-6) looper said about that day. It is a wonder that this booklet survived and that the signature didn't succumb to and water damage or bleeding, remaining in a welcomed high grade and the only one in the entire booklet. The first photo in this listing is a closeup of the signature itself next to Woods' name found on the inside of the booklet, in the final Afternoon group teeing off tee #1. This patron knew that Woods would become a star much earlier than the general public did, in his third PGA Tour start and first par or better round at Weston Hills Country Club on the second Friday in March, 1993. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
