Spalding Wizard Dimpled Gutta Percha Golf Ball Dated 1899
A vintage golf ball featuring a dimpled exterior cover over a solid core. The ball is marked with two circular impressed stamps on opposite poles. One circular mark features an outer ring with the impressed characters SPALDING at the top and WIZARD at the bottom, surrounding a central dimpled pattern. The second circular mark contains the impressed text PATENTED APRIL 11 1899 within the outer ring. A visible seam line from the manufacturing mold runs around the circumference of the ball. The construction consists of a white-finished outer cover, which has been partially lost to reveal a dark brown, fibrous internal material consistent with gutta percha. The surface is textured with a regular pattern of raised circular dimples..
