Set of Four Arnold Palmer Peerless Chattanooga Persimmon Woods

This is a set of four vintage golf clubs manufactured by the Arnold Palmer Golf Company, featuring the Peerless Chattanooga model. The set includes a 1-wood (driver), 3-wood, 4-wood, and 5-wood. The club heads are constructed from persimmon wood finished in a glossy black coating. Each club features a brass-toned metal soleplate secured by five screws. The soleplates are stamped with the Palmer script name above Peerless and the location Chattanooga. An oval mark at the heel of the soleplate identifies the clubs as densi-tized. The club faces incorporate multi-layered composite and wood inserts with horizontal scoring lines, held in place by four screws arranged in a diamond pattern. The clubs are mounted on stepped steel shafts. The set features mixed grips: the 1 and 4 woods have brown wrap-style grips, while the 3 and 5 woods have black rubber grips, with the 3-wood grip specifically marked with the Palmer name.

The Fred Simmons Collection
Co-owner with Arnold Palmer of the ProGroup out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Fred Simmons was as networked in the golf industry as they came. There Simmons developed the Palmer Peerless, a then innovative persimmon driver. While at ProGroup he would assist in designing courses and travel the world with his knowledge of the game, passing it on to anyone that Simmons crossed paths with. "I have a good friend there. Call them and mention my name and they will take care of you," he was famous for saying to those close to him. Immersed in golf club design, Simmons became close with Ben Hogan while Chairman of the Board at his equipment company with his namesake. Simmons and Hogan were golf partners at Colonial, Brook Hollow etc. in the 1970's when they weren't in Hogan's Fort Worth plant examining clubs. Simmons would bring Valerie Hogan vintage photos that brought back memories and forth stories. Directly from his collection by way of Simmons' daughter Allison Schrock, we bring you The Fred Simmons Collection.
