Sam Snead Signed 1952 Wheaties Portrait Hand-Cut Card
Out of the 3,529 Wheaties cards from the 1952 set in the PSA population report, each hand-cut carefully off of the back panel of the Breakfast of Champions, only 50 are signed across the set. Of those 50, only two Sam Snead portrait photo and one action cards are signed by the Slammer. Examples of these cards saved off the panel of the Breakfast of Champions simply weren
t en vogue to approach the 82-time PGA Tour winner (including victories at the 1949, 1952 and 1954 Masters) for his penmanship. Mid-century signed golf cards from the greats just are not available, in an collecting climate that is rewarding those few with the forsight of obtaining Mantle on his Topps rookie card coincidentally from the same year. If you haven't even seen a Sam Snead signed 1952 'Portrait' hand-cut card with the orange and blue post-swing depiction you are not alone. The winning bidder will be happy to throw their 'straw' hat in the ring of the emerging vintage card-with-signature sub-category. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
