Sam Snead High Kick On Ryder Cup Airplane Original Photo, Negative And Rights From Tom Treick
With a portfolio of stories to go along with his photographs, lensman Tom Treick's face lit up when we got to this shot specifically. While serving as Peter Jacobsen's trusted photographer and on a small twin-engine puddle jumper headed to Bend, Oregon for the Fred Meyers Challenge, an impromptu kick from straw hat Sam would serve as the on-flight entertainment. The story goes after a couple of spirits, Chi-Chi Rodriguez and Fuzzy Zoeller talked Sam Snead into showing off his high kick for the contestants and their guests (coincidentally also Gary Player's current party trick). Snead accepted the challenge to kick the ceiling EXIT sign. Jacobsen then got the attention of his photographer and without time to prepare, Treick snapped the photo of the limber Sam Snead in full-extension. Notice the time-period Heineken can gripped on the right side of the isle. Treick was a career photographer with a strong emphasis on golf, both working for Peter Jacobsen as his eyes and The Oregonian newspaper.
