Robert Forgan and Sons St. Andrews Hickory Shafted Wood Golf Club
An antique hickory-shafted wooden golf club produced by the renowned maker Robert Forgan and Sons in St. Andrews, Scotland. The club head is constructed of wood, likely persimmon, and features a socket-head design where the shaft is inserted into the neck, secured by black whipping. The top of the club head is stamped with the maker's mark R. FORGAN above ST ANDREWS, featuring a crown emblem below the text. The presence of the crown mark indicates a production date after 1901, following the firm's appointment as clubmakers to King Edward VII. The sole is protected by a brass plate held in place by six flat-head screws, and a lead back-weight is embedded in the rear of the head. The tapered shaft is made of hickory and is fitted with a long, brown suede-wrapped grip secured with black whipping at both ends.
