River Crest Country Club English Pewter Golf Flask
Offered here is an English pewter golf flask commemorating River Crest Country Club. Ben Hogan gained his strength and stamina back at River Crest following the near fatal car crash he and his wife Valerie were in. Babe Didrikson Zaharias took golf lessons at River Crest, and out of that relationship the Texas Women's Open was staged at the club from 1935-55. The flask features a course scorecard replica and history of the Crestival. It reads as follows:
"Crestival
Since its inception in 1959, this annual member-guest golf tournament at River Crest Country Club has been a festival of activities centered around a two-day golf tournament (preceded by a practice round with some action of its own).
Probably the first such event in Texas, Crestival was patterned after a similar event at Cherry Hills in Denver.
It was held every other year until 1997, when it became an annual event. There was a brief hiatus in the mid 1980's after the clubhouse burned.
Records from prior Crestivals were lost in that fire, so much of Crestival's history lies in the embellished recollections of its past participants."
