Rare 1937 Revolta Golf Recorder - First Simulator?
With the debut of Tiger and Rory's golf simulator TGL league and decades after it went mainstream for the casual player one must ask themselves: how did this start? When? While a Google search will say the late 1970's by Dave Pelz, our argument is for this invention by C. Auausr the 'Revolta Golf Recorder' with his patent granted in 1937, quoted as follows from the mind of the maker.
"There have been target practice courts and various other complicated indicating devices designed for golf practice but I have provided a very simple, efficient, and easily calibrated device and one which is the first, as far as I am aware, to indicate distance and the direction of travel of the club head in a golf swing, where an actual golf ball is not used." as written by inventor C. Auausr in his 1933 patent that would be granted on February 2, 1937 as stated on this revolutionary golf practice aid/simulator. It was believed to be the first golf measuring device invented for indoor practice, an idea that has since gone mainstream for practice and entertainment! Auausr goes on to explain "My invention relates in general to a golf practice indicator and more specifically to an arrangement for use in golf practice or as an indoor game (providing a target to be struck by a golf club and means controlled thereby) for giving an indication of the distance which a ball would have travelled if struck and the direction in which the golf club head was moving at the moment of impact with the ball." He goes on to say, "The device in general consists of a low flat framework to be placed on the floor or ground carrying an upstanding target or flap of resilient material at which the operator swings a golf club. This target consists of a resilient member supported on a rotating device so as to indicate direction."
The golf simulator has never been more relevant, while in the practiced golfer's life for a while now. Start back at the beginning, nearly 90 years ago with this 1937 patented Revolta Golf Recorder with original paint, expected signs of usage and in overall good condition as depicted in the accompanying lot photos.
