Program from Gerald Ford's Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony
Here we have a program from the Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony, in which President Clinton awarded the medal to President Gerald R. Ford in 1999. This program is a seldom seen piece that will shine in any collection.
**ROBERT (BOB) E. BARRETT COLLECTION**
Robert Barrett served as the Army Military Aide to President Gerald R. Ford. Following their White House years, Barrett was invited to remain with former President Ford as his Chief of Staff. This appointment led to a position for Barrett with Ford that remained intact until the former President passed in 2006. All told, Barrett spent 32 years from 1974-2006 in service to Ford. During this time period amid Ford library and foundation work, Barrett would be called on to orchestrate the United States delegation of former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon and Ford as they traveled aboard Air Force One to Anwar Sadat's funeral. This busy working relationship though was not exclusively about matters of state, as dedicated golfer Ford tasked Barrett with the assignment to organize the first Jerry Ford Invitational golf tournament. Barrett would oversee this event for 20 years (1977-1996) raising in the neighborhood of $1.5 million in charitable donations from this star studded event that combined top celebrities such as Sammy Davis Jr., Clint Eastwood, Jackie Gleason, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon and Michael Jordan with top PGA players of the day in the likes of Ray Floyd, Hale Irwin, Johnny Miller, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. We at The Golf Auction are so fortunate to have been called upon to offer Mr. Barrett's collection, assembled over a lifetime of memorable experiences, to The Golf Auction bidders. Enjoy this opportunity to acquire a wide-ranging assortment of seldom seen collectibles.
