PSA Bobby Jones Collector Issues Set of Four (4) Golf Cards from 1927-1930

This lot includes 4 of the 12 cards needed to complete the Bobby Jones Basic & Collector Set in the PSA Set Registry. Of the 12 cards needed to compete the set, the most common grades are Authentic, PSA 1 or PSA 2. This lot contains 3 PSA 6 copies (two from Bobby’s Grand Slam year of 1930; one from 1928 when he won the US Amateur) and a perfectly centered PSA 4 from 1927 when he won both the US Amateur and The Open Championship.

1) 1930 JA Pattreiouex Celebrities in Sport 6 - Excellent eye-appeal with his colored portrait in the center flanked with intricate design. It is from a set of 50 spanning greats in all of sport from Manchester England cigarette packs. This was from the beginning of the great depression, with less disposable income, if any at all. It was very notably the year of his Grand Slam. Pop of 22 with only 23 higher in the PSA Population report. It is the lowest total pop (87) of the four cards in this offering.

2) 1930 Major Drapkin & Co Sporting Celebrities 6 - Post-swing with his cap on and argyle socks, Jones is pictured on the front of this card in black and white by the London-based tobacco distributor. This was from the beginning of the great depression, with less disposable income, if any at all. It was very notably the year of his Grand Slam. This card is a pop 32 with only 61 higher. There is only one PSA 9 and zero PSA 10s. The centering and eye appeal of this PSA 6 could go toe to toe with many examples in a higher grade.

3) 1928 J. Millhoff & Co Famous Golfers 6 - Encapsulated and high graded cards are the rage in sports memorabilia these days and this Bobby Jones original 1928 beauty is graded by PSA as a strong conditioned 6 (Ex Mint) vintage card. The card sports a wonderful image of the great Bobby Jones in action and one we are quite sure that some young boy collected this Jones’ artifact and was proud to own just prior to the depression of 1929 and his 1930 Grand Slam. Here is your chance to add a quality golf card to an already special golf collection, London England print entering the hobby by way of tobacco company.

4) 1927 WA & AC Churchman Famous Golfers - Small PSA 4 - This graded PSA 4 example has great eye appeal and is nicely centered on this Bobby Jones card #27 which is one of two different poses of Jones appearing in the 1927 set of 50 W.A. & A.C. Churchman "Famous Golfers" small series. This card is one of the most well known and popular cards of Bobby Jones. With Jones' popularity rivaling Babe Ruth in the 1920's and 30's sporting world it is also one of the top golf cards of all time. Front and back of card present clean and crisp. This offering is an example of the much sought after cornerstone of golf card collecting, United Kingdom print also entering the hobby by way of tobacco company.. --
