PING by Karsten Redwood City "No Model" Putter - Rare!

The crown jewel of the classic club market! As the title reads, this high-grade PING putter model not only contains the "Redwood City" marking with an origin story back to Karsten Solheim's original production location in his California garage, but elevating it even further in importance is the early first run "no model" designation. While this shares many design elements of the 1A putter it is not stamped with that model name. This is one of very few unmarked examples, with only the 6 weight, and worthy of the "rare" scarcity descriptor, acting as a limited rookie card run for putter legend Karsten.

These original putters were manganese bronze cast prior to hand ground, sanded and and finished. This lot contains the difficult circa 1959 PING by Karsten Redwood City putter that dedicated PING collectors reference regularly, representing the beginning of a putting era. This putter was the predecessor of the modern day putter, Karsten Solheim produced his first putters in his garage in Redwood City, CA before founding Ping. This is the very flat stick that makes the loud "ping" sound - where the PING company got its onomatopoeia name. For market reference purposes it should be stated that an overpouring, but warranted, amount of bids came in on an example of this putter we offered in our May 2022 auction resulting in a final price of $11,939. This Redwood City putter high-grade exemplar comes in great condition, with its rare 'Pro Only' Golf Pride replacement grip alongside and has sole stamps that read "Ping by Karsten Redwood City, Calif. Pat. Pend." Please refer to the accompanying lot photographs for a in-depth condition report. This putter measures 35."
