Original George Pietzcker 1913 US Open Playoff Photo w/Ouimet, Vardon & Ray Signed Cuts

The stage was set, with the outcome undetermined as the United States Golf Association chose Massachusetts' own The Country Club in Brookline to host their national championship, the US Open. Brookline, Massachusetts, native and 20-year old amateur Francis Ouimet would earn the nickname "Father of Amateur Golf" with tournament victory. It wouldn't be until after a playoff with two much more experienced and battle tested professional champions in Ted Ray and Harry Vardon that Ouimet would be catapulted onto shoulders in celebration by the Brookline citizens. Here is that memorable shot with Ouimet in the middle and Harry Vardon and Ted Ray on either side, a historical original photo from the historical lensman George Pietzcker. This is framed with signatures of each of the three subjects professionally mounted below framed in gold-tone trim. We have removed the photo from the frame in order to properly inspect. It measures 8" x 5 5/8"

The camera eye which captured this image was George Pietzcker, a remarkable photographer from St. Louis, who covered the golf scene from the early 1910's till mid 1930's. During this time period, he was the official photographer for the United States Golf Association creating a visual record of the country's national championships and champions. This incredible large format photograph carries the Pietzcker trademark in the bottom right corner and white ink bottom centered 'W.C. Fownes Jr.' in script. 14 1/4" x 16 1/4." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
